European low-cost carrier Volotea is deepening its long-standing partnership with Navitaire, an Amadeus company, by adopting Navitaire Stratos, a next-generation, AI-powered retailing platform designed to personalize and streamline the travel experience.
The move signals Volotea’s intent to accelerate its digital retail transformation as competition intensifies across Europe’s low-cost airline market.
A Shift Toward Dynamic, Personalized Retailing
Navitaire Stratos is a cloud-native, digital-first retailing portfolio built to deliver dynamic offers, AI-driven personalization and seamless booking flows. For Volotea, the adoption represents a strategic upgrade aimed at making trip planning more intuitive while enhancing operational agility.
The platform introduces:
-
Tailored offers powered by AI
-
A simplified, user-friendly shopping cart
-
Expanded self-service functionality
-
Faster implementation of new digital capabilities
By leveraging artificial intelligence and an open architecture, Volotea can adapt pricing, bundles and ancillary offers in real time—responding more effectively to shifting traveler behavior.
Alex de Jesús, Chief Experience Officer at Volotea, emphasized the customer focus behind the decision:
“Continuing our collaboration with Navitaire allows us to further leverage technology to enhance the way we serve our customers. With Navitaire Stratos, we are taking the next step in delivering more relevant and flexible booking experiences that drive customer satisfaction, while building the agility and resilience our teams need to stay ahead of evolving traveler expectations”.
Operational Efficiency Meets Revenue Opportunity
Beyond personalization, Navitaire Stratos supports smoother integrations with partner airlines and third-party providers, including car rental and hotel platforms. This expanded connectivity enables Volotea to strengthen ancillary revenue streams and improve operational efficiency.
The cloud-based system is designed for scalability and resilience—critical attributes for a carrier that operates point-to-point routes primarily connecting small and medium-sized cities across Europe and North Africa.
Volotea has also extended its existing New Skies agreement with Navitaire, ensuring business continuity as the Stratos rollout progresses.
Maher Koubaa, EVP Travel Unit & Managing Director EMEA at Amadeus, said:
“Volotea is one of the most innovative low-cost carriers in Europe, and it is an honor to be selected to accelerate its retail transformation. Navitaire Stratos is designed to empower forward-thinking airlines, and the agreement illustrates how we can help Volotea achieve retailing and operational excellence”.
Strengthening A Digital-First Strategy
Founded in 2011 in Barcelona, Volotea has built its brand around underserved city pairs and unique routes. As the LCC sector evolves beyond basic fare competition toward more sophisticated retailing models, digital capabilities are becoming central to maintaining a competitive edge.
By adopting Navitaire Stratos, Volotea is positioning itself to innovate faster, personalize more effectively and respond dynamically to traveler expectations—an increasingly decisive factor in Europe’s crowded low-cost aviation market.
The partnership underscores a broader industry shift: low-cost carriers are no longer defined solely by price, but by how intelligently they retail, personalize and optimize the traveler journey from search to post-booking service.
