Cabin Reconfigurations Focused on Premium Comfort
As part of its ongoing fleet modernization, the UK-based long-haul carrier—also a member of the SkyTeam alliance—will reconfigure 10 of its A330-900neo aircraft starting in Q3 2026. The new layout significantly shifts the balance in favor of premium seating:
-
Economy seats will drop from 184 to 128.
-
Premium economy will increase from 46 to 56 seats.
-
Upper Class will expand from 32 to 48 seats, including six Retreat Suites—Virgin’s most luxurious offering featuring a 6 ft. 7 in. lie-flat bed, 27-inch touchscreen monitor, and a convertible ottoman seat.
This move follows the introduction of the A330neo to Virgin’s fleet in October 2022, with full reconfiguration expected to be completed by 2030.
In tandem, Virgin’s 14 Boeing 787-9s will undergo a complete cabin redesign by 2028. The changes mirror those on the A330neo:
-
Economy seating will be reduced from 192 to 127.
-
Premium will expand from 35 to 56 seats.
-
Upper Class will grow from 31 to 44 seats, now including eight Retreat Suites—a first for the Dreamliner.
Virgin Atlantic’s current and future fleet will total 45 aircraft by 2028, consisting of 19 A330-900s, 12 A350-1000s, and 14 Boeing 787-9s.

First UK Airline to Roll Out Starlink Connectivity
In a UK first, Virgin will become the nation’s inaugural airline to offer Starlink satellite Wi-Fi. Developed by SpaceX, Starlink promises fast, unlimited in-flight connectivity suitable for streaming and video calls. The airline confirmed that the service will be free for all Flying Club members.
The installation will begin in Q3 2026 and is scheduled for completion across all A330neos, A350s, and 787-9s by the end of 2027.
Ground Experience Also Getting an Upgrade
Virgin Atlantic is extending its premium focus beyond the cabin. Following the opening of a redesigned Clubhouse at Los Angeles International Airport in March, the airline plans to refurbish lounges at London Heathrow and New York JFK, enhancing the pre-flight experience for Upper Class and elite status passengers.
Looking Ahead: Electric Air Taxis on the Horizon
Virgin Atlantic is also exploring the future of sustainable air mobility. In partnership with Joby Aviation, the airline aims to introduce electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi services by the end of the decade—offering customers a fast and eco-friendly transfer to and from major airports.
These bold moves reflect Virgin’s strategic pivot toward a high-value, high-comfort travel model—emphasizing technology, sustainability, and luxury in a competitive global aviation landscape.
