Virgin Atlantic is set to enhance its transatlantic offerings through an expanded codeshare partnership with Canada’s WestJet, aiming to provide seamless travel experiences between Canada, the United Kingdom, and onward destinations, particularly India.

Expanded Codeshare Partnership

Effective March 30, 2025, coinciding with Virgin Atlantic’s reintroduction of its London Heathrow to Toronto Pearson International Airport route, the enhanced codeshare agreement will enable passengers to book single-ticket journeys connecting Virgin Atlantic’s flights from London to Toronto with WestJet’s extensive domestic network. This collaboration facilitates streamlined travel to 13 Canadian cities, including Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Ottawa. A significant benefit of this partnership is the co-location of both airlines at Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 3, allowing passengers to transfer without the need to recheck baggage. Additionally, loyalty program integration is anticipated later in the year, offering reciprocal benefits to members of both airlines’ programs.

Strategic Focus on India

India has emerged as a pivotal market in Virgin Atlantic’s global strategy. The airline has significantly increased its capacity to the region, now operating double daily flights from London Heathrow to both Delhi and Mumbai. In March 2024, Virgin Atlantic expanded its Indian network by introducing a new route to Bengaluru. This expansion has resulted in over a million seats offered to India in 2025, marking a 350% increase since 2019. The partnership with WestJet is instrumental in this strategy, as it provides Canadian travelers, particularly the substantial Indian diaspora, with convenient access to these Indian destinations via London.

Enhanced Connectivity and Market Expansion

The collaboration between Virgin Atlantic and WestJet not only strengthens connections between Canada and the UK but also extends to key international destinations. Passengers can now enjoy seamless travel from Canadian cities through London Heathrow to locations such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in India, as well as other destinations like Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa. This expanded network is poised to cater to both business and leisure travelers, offering more options and flexibility.

Operational and Customer Experience Enhancements

To support this growth, Virgin Atlantic is investing in its fleet and customer services. The airline plans to operate the Toronto route using a mix of aircraft, including the state-of-the-art Airbus A330neo, known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. Furthermore, the co-location at Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 3 is designed to enhance the passenger experience by reducing transfer times and simplifying connections. The anticipated integration of loyalty programs will further enrich the travel experience, providing added value to frequent flyers.

Virgin Atlantic’s expanded partnership with WestJet and its strategic emphasis on the Indian market underscore the airline’s commitment to broadening its global reach and enhancing connectivity for passengers. These initiatives are set to provide travelers with more choices, improved convenience, and a superior travel experience across the network.
