United AirlinesUnited Airlines has outlined changes to its United MileagePlus program for 2024, and unlike Delta SkyMiles, which raised elite status requirements, United will not be doing so in the upcoming year. The focus of the changes is on enhancing how members earn Premier qualifying points (PQPs) through purchases on United MileagePlus credit cards issued by Chase. This aims to facilitate the achievement of Premier status by increasing card spending.
While United has confirmed that Premier Elite status requirements will not be raised for the 2025 membership cycle, the airline will be making adjustments for 2024. United will maintain the 2023 Premier status qualification requirements for 2024, and members will receive PQP deposits early in 2024 to use toward their status goals. However, the PQP deposits for 2024 will be reduced by half.
The PQP deposits for 2024 will be as follows:
- Premier Silver: 250 PQPs
- Premier Gold: 500 PQPs
- Premier Platinum: 1,000 PQPs
- Premier 1K: 1,250 PQPs
Despite the reduction in PQP deposits, United aims to help elite members maintain their status by adjusting the way PQPs are earned through United MileagePlus credit cards. Starting January 1, 2024, members will earn 25 PQPs per $500 spent on eligible cobranded United credit cards, a change from the previous rate of 500 PQPs for every $12,000. This adjustment allows cardholders to earn PQPs 20% faster, making it more convenient to accumulate PQPs from United credit card spending.
While these changes may impact the speed at which PQPs are earned, it’s important to note that each United credit card has a maximum limit on the number of PQPs that can be earned from card spending in a calendar year.
