According to a TechCrunch report, subscribers of Uber One will now receive a 6 percent cashback on eligible rides. The report mentions that Uber is discontinuing the previous 5 percent discount for subscribers. The new cashback reward, called ‘Uber Cash,’ can be used for both Uber rides and Uber Eats. Uber introduced the subscription service in 2021, priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. In 2022, Uber One memberships doubled to around 12 million members, according to Uber’s full-year earnings report. While the switch to a cashback offer may increase Uber’s profit margins, it could potentially lead to a loss of customers who were attracted by the discounts. However, other benefits such as free delivery and a 10 percent discount on eligible Uber Eats orders will remain in place. Last year, Uber discontinued its free loyalty program, which allowed riders to earn points for every dollar spent on rides or deliveries. In June, the company plans to launch “Uber Green” by introducing more electric vehicles.
