Trip.com has launched an innovative Free Layover Tour Service at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), enabling international transit passengers with layovers of seven hours or more to transform idle wait time into curated cultural tours. Offering six half-day itinerariesthree complimentary and three premium paid—the service includes guided round-trip transport, experienced English-speaking (and Mandarin/Cantonese-capable) guides, and streamlined fast-track reentry into the airport to ensure hassle-free onward travel.

Building on Trip.com’s earlier “Shanghai Express” and “Beijing Express” layover tours, the Hong Kong program introduces a wider range of experiences. The three complimentary routes highlight Hong Kong’s bustling city life, tranquil natural scenery, and cultural heritage, while the premium itineraries provide deeper immersion in iconic sites such as Lantau Island’s Big Buddha, Victoria Peak, and the traditional Tai O fishing village.

Highlights of the Tours:

Free Tours (approx. 4 hours each):

  • Heritage and Local Lifestyle Citywalk — Explore Sham Shui Po’s Pei Ho Street Market and the iconic Wong Tai Sin Temple.

  • Victoria & West Kowloon Waterfront Journey — Evening visits to the West Kowloon Cultural District and Avenue of Stars with sweeping harbour views.

  • Serenity & Stories: A Harmony Journey — Visit Inspiration Lake near Disneyland and Ma Wan Village for a peaceful mix of nature and history.

Premium Tours (advance booking required, minimum 6 participants):

  • Lantau Island Half-Day Tour — Ngong Ping 360 cable car, the Big Buddha, Ngong Ping Village, and Wisdom Path.

  • The Peak Half-Day Tour — Discover colonial heritage at Stanley Police Station and Murray House before ascending Victoria Peak on the Peak Tram.

Registration & Travel Services

Passengers can book their preferred itinerary via the Trip.com app, the official website, or on-site at HKIA. Designated counters at the airport serve as registration and assembly points. Each tour accommodates up to 20 guests, includes transfers, and guarantees fast-track reentry into the restricted zone after immigration clearance.

To enhance convenience, Trip.com has also established a dedicated service counter at HKIA, offering one-stop travel support including day tours, transport arrangements, accommodation bookings, attraction tickets, eSIM cards, and other travel essentials. Visitors also receive a complimentary welcome gift pack upon arrival.

Passenger Benefits:

  • Hassle-free guided tours tailored to layover schedules.

  • Multilingual guides available in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

  • Carefully timed itineraries coinciding with peak transit hours.

  • Fast-track passes to ensure seamless onward connections.

  • Options ranging from free cultural experiences to premium, immersive explorations.

By turning long transit periods into opportunities for cultural discovery, the service aims to increase passenger satisfaction and strengthen Hong Kong International Airport’s position as a premier global aviation hub. Trip.com and HKIA are positioning layovers not as wasted time, but as meaningful experiences that connect travelers with the essence of Hong Kong.
