SriLankan Airlines has established its inaugural interline partnership with Virgin Australia, aiming to enhance its presence in the Australian market by providing customers with a wide range of connections on Australia’s domestic routes.

This new collaboration underscores the airline’s dedication to Australia, allowing customers to easily include select Virgin Australia domestic or international flights in their SriLankan Airlines booking. This arrangement simplifies managing a multi-airline itinerary under a single ticket.

Dimuthu Tennakoon, the Head of Worldwide Sales and Distribution at SriLankan Airlines, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, citing Australia’s substantial Sri Lankan diaspora and the popularity of their Australian routes throughout the year. Tennakoon anticipates that this partnership will facilitate greater penetration of the Australian market through enhanced connectivity and additional benefits for their valued customers.

Presently, SriLankan Airlines operates daily flights from Colombo to Melbourne and three weekly flights to Sydney. This partnership will allow passengers traveling to Melbourne or Sydney with SriLankan Airlines to connect to various Australian cities, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Hamilton Island, Launceston, Gold Coast, and Perth, using Virgin Australia’s connecting flights.

Furthermore, passengers will have the option to extend their journeys beyond Australia to destinations like New Zealand, Samoa, and Fiji via Virgin Australia, benefiting Sri Lankan and Indian Australians residing in these cities. They can now depart from their local Australian city, travel to Sri Lanka, and continue to their final destination in India with a single booking from SriLankan Airlines. Passengers can enjoy a seamless journey with a single check-in, including baggage checked through to their ultimate destination.

The introduction of interline flights with Virgin Australia, both domestically and internationally, should also enhance accessibility to Sri Lanka for Australian tourists heading overseas.

Australian leisure travelers can now fly to Sri Lanka from the two major gateway cities, Melbourne and Sydney, using connecting flights from towns served by Virgin Australia. Additionally, passengers flying to Australia with SriLankan Airlines via Colombo from the Maldives, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will have the opportunity to connect with Virgin Australia flights that operate on domestic routes within Australia.
