Singapore Airlines is progressively resuming its flight operations, aiming to return its network to nearly pre-Covid levels during the Northern Winter operating season from October 29, 2023, to March 30, 2024.
As of its update on November 7, the SIA Group anticipates that flight capacity will reach an average of approximately 92% of pre-pandemic levels by December 2023. The group plans to achieve or exceed pre-Covid capacity levels within the fiscal year 2024/25, starting on April 1, by gradually expanding services across its network.
Regarding China, SIA is reintroducing services to key destinations in the country. These include Chongqing, which started this month, Chengdu in December, and Xiamen between December 2023 and January 2024. As part of its regular network review, SIA will operate flights to Shenzhen instead of Scoot starting from November 2023. Additionally, SIA will increase the frequency of flights to Guangzhou from daily to double daily starting in November 2023. Scoot will also resume operations to Kunming and Changsha later this month. With these reinstated services, SIA and Scoot will collectively serve 23 destinations in China, compared to 25 points before the pandemic. Scoot will also deploy additional services to Hong Kong SAR, Melbourne, and Sydney from December 2023 to February 2024 to meet the year-end holiday demand.
Looking ahead to the Northern Summer 2024 operating season, SIA plans to expand its services to destinations across its global network. This includes the restoration of Airbus A380 services to Frankfurt, the deployment of widebody Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft to Cairns and Male, and the reinstatement of direct services between Singapore and Barcelona. Flight frequencies will increase to meet or surpass pre-pandemic levels at various destinations, including Ahmedabad (India), Beijing and Shanghai (China), Copenhagen (Denmark), Da Nang (Vietnam), Darwin, Melbourne, and Perth (Australia), Dubai (UAE), Tokyo-Haneda (Japan), and Seattle and Houston (US). In April 2024, subject to regulatory approvals, SIA will launch four times weekly direct flights between Singapore and Brussels.
In addition to its operational updates, Singapore Airlines will host the 67th edition of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) Assembly of Presidents from November 9 to 10, 2023. AAPA, representing 14 member airlines, is a trade association for scheduled international carriers based in the Asia Pacific region. The event will welcome more than 200 delegates, attendees, and media members from around the world and will be held at Singapore’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
