GLOShopify expanded its partnership with YouTube on Tuesday, according to a company blog post. Now, eligible Shopify Plus and Advanced sellers in the U.S. can join YouTube’s affiliate program through Google and YouTube apps available on the Shopify platform. This program allows Shopify merchants to collaborate with YouTube creators to promote their products, with sellers able to manage the program, content, and product analytics using Google Merchant Center.
YouTube creators can now promote products from brands like GoPure Beauty, BK Beauty, and HexClad through YouTube Shopping’s affiliate program. Additionally, YouTube is launching a Google Chrome extension for U.S. creators in the program, enabling them to save products, tag them in videos, and view potential earnings from promotions. This partnership with Shopify is part of YouTube’s broader commitment to social commerce. In 2022, YouTube’s Vice President of Shopping Product, David Katz, announced the collaboration with Shopify, allowing creators to link their Shopify stores directly on their channels, and the company has since expanded its shoppable content across Live, short-form, and long-form videos.
In 2023, YouTube viewers watched over 30 billion hours of shopping-related videos, according to YouTube Shopping Product Manager Suyog Karnawat, who highlighted the platform’s efforts to strengthen connections between creators and their audiences. YouTube has recently introduced updates to make shopping easier for viewers and tagging more accessible for creators.
YouTube is enhancing its content shopping features as other platforms introduce similar capabilities in the social commerce space. In 2022, Wish launched Wish Clips, allowing users to view product details and purchase items within short-form videos on the app. In 2023, TikTok introduced TikTok Shop in the U.S., enabling businesses to feature products on the app. Earlier this year, Amazon Live launched a shoppable, ad-supported channel on Prime Video, allowing viewers to browse, shop, and interact with content directly from their TVs or mobile devices.
