Saudi Arabia’s emerging national airline Riyadh Air has entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding with Turkish Airlines, aiming to provide a wide array of benefits for travelers utilizing their services.

As per the agreement, passengers flying with either airline will have access to a comprehensive interline and codeshare arrangement, facilitating seamless connections across the networks of both Turkish Airlines and Riyadh Air, according to an official statement.

Additionally, the cooperation agreement includes the introduction of a loyalty program, enabling passengers to accrue points or credits on codeshare flights operated by either carrier.

These benefits are slated to be available to travelers following the commencement of Riyadh Air’s operations in mid-2025, subject to regulatory approvals by relevant authorities.

The signing ceremony occurred alongside the 15th International Conference on Air Services Negotiations, affiliated with the International Civil Aviation Organization, held in Riyadh.

Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas emphasized the significance of the agreement, highlighting the partnership with the world’s largest global airline by destinations served. He underscored the importance of bilateral agreements with established network carriers, citing enhanced connectivity for passengers and increased inbound tourism, religious, and business travel to Saudi Arabia.

Strengthening the aviation sector is pivotal for Saudi Arabia’s aspirations to become a global tourism hub, aligning with the objectives outlined in Vision 2030. Through its National Tourism Strategy, Saudi Arabia aims to attract 150 million tourists to the Kingdom by 2030.

Levent Konukcu, chief investment and technology officer at Turkish Airlines, described the memorandum of understanding as more than a mere collaboration, emphasizing its role as a bridge between Turkey and Saudi Arabia. He highlighted the potential for expanded reach, increased choices, and enhanced convenience for guests, expecting the partnership to significantly benefit the tourism and business sectors of both countries.
