GLOQatar Airways has introduced a new feature called ‘Avios Max,’ which enables users to fully pay for any Qatar Airways flight (excluding taxes) using Avios. While this presents a convenient option for payment, it’s worth noting that the value per point may not be as favorable compared to a standard Avios redemption. Additionally, there are specific quirks in the booking process that users should be aware of if considering this payment method.
Making a booking using Avios Max differs significantly from the process of booking a standard redemption on the Qatar Airways website.
For a standard redemption, it is immaterial whether Avios are stored in the Executive Club or Qatar Privilege Club. As long as the accounts are linked, members can proceed with the booking, and the Qatar website will automatically deduct the necessary Avios from the BA account.
However, this is not the case with Avios Max. To use Avios Max, Avios must have been transferred into the Qatar Privilege Club account following the specified method. Even though the Qatar Airways website can still access and display members’ BA balances, it cannot utilize it for an Avios Max transaction. Therefore, members must transfer the Avios to their Qatar Privilege Club account for this purpose.
