QantasQantas is updating its Flight Credits system to make it more flexible and postponing an increase in fees for changing or canceling flights.
Starting today, October 9, Qantas customers with Flight Credits will be able to use their credits across multiple bookings. Previously, Flight Credits could only be applied to bookings equal to or higher in value than the original fare, requiring customers to use the entire credit in one booking. Now, passengers can apply part of their credit toward a lower-priced fare and keep the remaining balance for future use.
This change will be retroactively applied to more than 100,000 Flight Credits already requested by customers. The “multi-use” rule is already in place for credits issued when Qantas cancels a flight and customers choose to receive credit.
Travelers who booked directly with Qantas can access their credits by logging into their Qantas Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards account and using the “Use Flight Credit” option. Those who booked through a travel agent or third-party website should contact them directly to rebook using their credit.
Delay in Increased Rebooking and Cancellation Fees

Qantas has also announced a delay in the planned increase of change fees for domestic flights. Although the changes were set to take effect today, the airline said more technical testing is needed before they are implemented.
Once the changes are rolled out, the fees for changing or canceling domestic flights will rise from $99 to $119 across various fare types. Economy and premium economy fares will see this 20% increase, while business class fares will not be affected.
This fee increase was first mentioned in an advisory to travel agents in early September, with the airline noting that the last fee adjustment was in March 2017.
For Red E-Deal economy fares, Qantas’ lowest domestic economy offering, the fee for changing the date or time of a flight will rise from $99 to $119, in addition to any fare difference for the new flight. If a customer cancels a Red E-Deal fare, they will receive a Flight Credit with a $119 fee applied when redeeming it.
Qantas Flex economy fares, which allow name changes, will see a fee increase from $99 to $119. There will be no fee to change or cancel a domestic Flex economy fare and hold the amount as a Flight Credit, but canceling for a refund will incur a $119 fee.
Premium economy class flights on domestic legs, such as Sydney-Perth and Perth-Sydney for Qantas flights to Paris and Rome, will also see a $119 fee for any changes or cancellations.
Although these fee changes are confirmed, they will be introduced at a later date.
