The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia has unveiled details of a project called THE RIG, which is touted as a groundbreaking adventure tourism destination. THE RIG, located on an offshore platform in the Arabian Gulf, is part of the broader Vision 2030 objectives in Saudi Arabia, aiming to boost tourism for economic diversification and job creation. Inspired by offshore oil platforms, THE RIG will cover a gross floor area of over 300,000 sqm near Al Juraid Island and Berri Oil Field. The masterplan aims to attract over 900,000 visitors annually by 2032, offering diverse experiences for various audiences, including extreme sports, hotels, restaurants, and a marina. The project, developed by the Oil Park Development Company (OPDC), is set to be a world-first adventure tourism destination.
