Nedbank has officially launched Nedbank Connect, its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), available exclusively to customers with current or savings accounts. This move marks the bank’s latest step in its broader “beyond banking” strategy, aiming to offer seamless mobile connectivity alongside insurance, rewards, and other value-added services.

What Nedbank Connect Offers

  • Flexibility First: The service runs on MTN’s infrastructure and features both preset and customizable month-to-month plans with no contracts, penalties, or hidden fees.

  • Preset Packages: Four standard plans are available:

    • R169 for 3 GB,

    • R199 for 5 GB,

    • R299 for 10 GB,

    • R499 for 20 GB—all include unlimited voice and SMS.

  • Custom & Prepaid Options: Users can build their own monthly bundle or choose from prepaid SIMs and eSIMs, with data bundles starting from just R5 for a day.

  • Starter Credit: Each new SIM activation includes R100 of free airtime.

Member Perks & Group Features

  • Greenbacks Airtime Rewards:

    • Clients can earn airtime automatically each month through the Greenbacks Rewards Programme.

    • Depending on tier, members may receive up to R300 in airtime credits monthly.

    • Greenbacks can also be converted directly into data, voice minutes, or SMS bundles, making the programme more flexible than cashback alone.

  • Bonus Rewards for Engagement:

    • Extra airtime and data rewards for using Nedbank digital channels such as the Money App and online banking.

    • Promotional campaigns offering double Greenbacks or additional data for activating new debit orders or transacting regularly.

  • Group Plans (Up to 10 SIMs): Ideal for families, small businesses, or community groups—allowing centralized management and real-time control of usage and spending.

  • Fair Usage Limits: Unlimited calls are capped at 60 minutes per session, with measures to curb misuse, such as limits on unique numbers called per month and a minimum share of incoming calls.

Seamless Onboarding & Support

  • Digital Activation: Onboarding—including RICA and activation—is completed through the Nedbank Money App, online banking, or in-branch. Users can select either eSIMs (free) or physical SIMs (R99 delivery).

  • Number Porting: Users may keep their existing number, with porting typically taking 24–48 hours.

  • Support & Roaming: Services include international roaming, 24/7 call center access, and in-branch assistance.

Timing & Market Context

Nedbank Connect is officially available to users via the Money App and online banking, with a wider public launch slated for 15 September 2025. This positions Nedbank among other banks like FNB, Standard Bank, and Capitec, which already offer MVNO services and have captured substantial market share.
