Marriott InternationalMarriott International has named Shannon Patterson as its new Senior Vice President of Global Sales, signaling a major restructuring of the company’s sales leadership. Patterson succeeds longtime SVP of Global Sales Tammy Routh, who has transitioned to the role of Commercial Performance Leader for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Marriott’s luxury cruise division.
This leadership shakeup also includes the appointment of Andy Kauffman as Chief Commercial Officer for the U.S. and Canada and Gail Frazer as Senior Vice President of Sales and Distribution for the U.S. and Canada, the company announced this week.
Shannon Patterson’s Experience
Patterson, a nearly 30-year veteran of Marriott, has held various senior leadership roles, including SVP of Customer Engagement Centers and SVP of Planning and Services for Brand, Marketing, Sales, and Consumer Services. Most recently, she served as SVP of Global Growth and Delivery, a role she held since 2023. In this position, her responsibilities included building strategic business partnerships, managing corporate account pricing processes, and overseeing sales and marketing tools.
Patterson’s extensive experience and familiarity with Marriott’s global operations position her well to lead its global sales strategy.
Tammy Routh’s Transition
Routh, who served as SVP of Global Sales since 2016, has been with Marriott since 1983, holding a variety of corporate and on-property roles throughout her career. Her new role with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection reflects Marriott’s commitment to expanding its luxury offerings and delivering premium experiences.
New Commercial Leadership for U.S. and Canada
Marriott has also brought back Andy Kauffman, a former Marriott executive who recently served as the NFL’s SVP of Marketing Strategy and Science, to take on the role of Chief Commercial Officer for the U.S. and Canada. Kauffman previously spent 11 years with Marriott, including as SVP of Marketing Channels and Optimization. He replaces Julius Robinson, who now serves as Chief Operations Officer for the U.S. West.
Gail Frazer, with nearly 25 years of experience at Marriott, has been promoted to SVP of Sales and Distribution for the U.S. and Canada. Frazer most recently served as Managing Vice President of Sales and Distribution for Premium and Luxury Hotels in the U.S. Eastern region. In her new role, she succeeds Brian Gilligan, who has been named Northeast Regional Vice President of Premium Brands.
Frazer’s corporate sales expertise includes leading sales for Marriott’s corporate global sales organization, where she worked with the largest multinational B2B clients in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.
Broader Organizational Reorganization
Marriott President and CEO Anthony Capuano highlighted that the restructuring is part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations and optimize decision-making across the organization. Speaking at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit, Capuano stated that the reorganization aims to empower leaders in the field, focus on key performance indicators, and ensure the company is optimally organized.
The overhaul follows previous changes, including late 2023 layoffs affecting hundreds of corporate positions. Capuano emphasized that the process is still evolving, with the focus on ensuring Marriott’s leadership is aligned with its strategic goals.
By reorganizing its leadership structure, Marriott is positioning itself to drive growth, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen its focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences across its global portfolio.
