Financial Overview

In the first quarter of 2025, Lufthansa Group achieved revenues of €8.1 billion, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The group’s adjusted EBIT improved to -€722 million from -€849 million in Q1 2024, despite seasonal pressures such as the late Easter holiday, which impacted earnings by around €80 million.

The adjusted EBIT margin improved to -8.9% from -11.5% in the prior year period. Net income stood at -€885 million, compared to -€734 million in Q1 2024, mainly due to financial and interest-related factors.

Adjusted free cash flow rose sharply to €835 million, up 174% from €305 million a year earlier, reflecting better operational performance and stronger working capital management.

Miles & More Loyalty Program Enhancements

Lufthansa’s Miles & More loyalty program is set to roll out a more dynamic award flight structure beginning June 3, 2025. The new model will base mileage requirements on ticket prices, moving away from a fixed award chart for flights operated by Lufthansa Group airlines such as Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Lufthansa City Airlines.

This change aims to provide greater flexibility, allowing members to find better value during off-peak periods and select from a broader range of fare options. Variable mileage pricing introduces the potential for reduced redemption costs, enhancing the appeal of the program for frequent flyers.

Customer Experience Initiatives

Lufthansa is continuing to prioritize customer satisfaction through enhanced digital experiences and service upgrades. Investments in seamless booking platforms, personalized travel features, and mobile tools are part of a broader initiative to modernize customer interaction and reinforce brand loyalty.

These enhancements are designed to support the airline’s long-term strategy of delivering premium service while staying competitive in a dynamic global market.

Outlook

For the remainder of 2025, Lufthansa remains optimistic, projecting continued revenue growth and operational improvements. Key focuses include the integration of ITA Airways into its network and further fleet modernization efforts aimed at improving sustainability and comfort.

Lufthansa’s Q1 performance reflects a balanced approach to financial discipline, strategic investment, and customer-centric innovation.
