Holland America Line’s President, Gus Antorcha, highlighted three key aspects as the focal points of the company’s evolving onboard experience during a press event aboard the Nieuw Statendam at Port Everglades. These elements, namely freshness, regional authenticity, and local sourcing, are central to their guest-focused approach.

Antorcha emphasized their commitment to guest research and connecting passengers with the diverse experiences offered across their extensive itineraries and visited regions.

In pursuit of the freshness component, the company recently initiated a global fresh fish program, ensuring locally sourced fish reaches the ship within 48 hours of procurement, enriching the onboard dining experience. Antorcha emphasized that while the focus is on fish, the program extends to other regional culinary inspirations, aligning with the broader regional emphasis.

The regional focus facilitates the freshness initiative by enabling the procurement of local produce, forming the third element of their strategy: local sourcing.

Antorcha illustrated how this strategy manifests in their food and beverage offerings, citing examples such as Rainier cherries and fresh Alaskan Halibut for voyages from Seattle to Alaska. He noted that this approach resonates with guests, as indicated by their preference for seafood, reflecting the company’s responsiveness to guest preferences.

Moreover, Antorcha highlighted the application of this three-element strategy beyond culinary offerings, extending to entertainment and beverages, driven by guest demand and contributing to the company’s differentiation through its unique itineraries brought to life onboard.

This strategic approach not only enhances the onboard experience but also has a positive impact on visited destinations, as Holland America Line actively supports local economies and communities, reinforcing their commitment to responsible tourism.
