Firefly, the budget subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), is planning to expand its flight network by commencing direct flights from Penang to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) starting on November 3.
The airline has scheduled five weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, utilizing a Boeing 737-800 configured with 189 seats, all in a single economy class layout.
Firefly’s CEO, Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, expressed enthusiasm about the introduction of direct flights from Penang to Bangkok, marking Firefly’s second destination in Thailand after launching direct flights to Phuket last year. This addition strengthens Firefly’s presence in the region and underscores their commitment to expanding their jet operations across ASEAN to meet the growing demands of both leisure and business travelers.
The flight, numbered FY3632, departs Penang at 16:00 and arrives in Bangkok (DMK) at 16:50 (local time). The return flight, FY3633, takes off from DMK at 18:00 and lands in Penang at 20:50.
To inaugurate the Penang-Bangkok route, the airline is offering a promotional one-way fare starting at MYR159 or USD51 for the Bangkok-Penang sector. Sales for this introductory fare will remain open until October 22, and the travel period is from November 3, 2023, to March 30, 2024.
Firefly currently operates flights to domestic destinations within Malaysia and offers routes to international locations such as Thailand (Phuket), Singapore, and Indonesia (Banda Aceh, Medan).
