Finnair Plus loyalty program members will now utilize Avios as their updated loyalty currency, marking a significant transition for the program. This shift follows a collaboration with IAG Loyalty to integrate Avios, the loyalty currency employed by Finnair’s oneworld partners’ loyalty programs, namely the British Airways Executive Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and Iberia Plus.

Established in 1992, the Finnair Plus loyalty program boasts over four million members worldwide, and these recent modifications signify a new chapter for members seeking to accumulate and redeem their loyalty currency.

The revamped spend-oriented program offers members fresh opportunities, including additional rewards such as supplementary upgrade benefits upon reaching specific point thresholds within their existing tier, along with expanded earning and redemption opportunities set to roll out later this spring.

As part of this initiative, Finnair has also augmented the availability of award seats on flights departing from February 1, 2024 – a highly sought-after benefit among members. The airline now ensures a minimum of four award seats on Finnair flights within Europe and eight on Finnair long-haul flights, thereby providing customers with more chances to utilize their accrued points.

Furthermore, Finnair Plus members now enjoy complimentary internet access for messaging on Finnair’s short-haul European flights operated with the narrow-body Airbus fleet, regardless of their tier status. This perk, introduced since November 2023, has already garnered popularity among Finnair Plus members.

Ole Orvér, Finnair’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed optimism about the adoption of Avios, emphasizing the manifold benefits it brings to their extensive member base. Adam Daniels, CEO of IAG Loyalty, echoed this sentiment, underlining the global significance and value of Avios for members worldwide.

In the forthcoming months, customers will also gain the ability to transfer Avios between Finnair Plus and British Airways Executive Club accounts at a 1:1 ratio, unlocking access to British Airways Executive Club’s array of rewards and partnerships.

The Finnair Plus loyalty program now operates on a spend-based model, where members progress through tiers based on their spending on Finnair flights and ancillary services. Adjustments have been made to tier thresholds to align with the introduction of Avios and the new spend-based tier points accrual.

While tier points and loyalty currency collection on partner-marketed or operated flights remain contingent on travel class, booking class, and distance flown, the unit of measurement has shifted from kilometers to miles flown.
