Delta Air Lines has announced a new partnership with Uber, allowing SkyMiles members to earn miles for rides starting this spring, marking the end of its eight-year relationship with Lyft. This move aligns with Delta’s strategy to enhance customer experiences by integrating its loyalty program with larger service providers.

Under the new arrangement, SkyMiles members can earn one mile per dollar spent on UberX airport rides, two miles per dollar for premium rides such as Uber Comfort and Uber Black, and three miles per dollar for Uber Reserve trips. Additionally, Uber Eats orders over $40 from restaurants and grocery stores will earn members one mile per dollar.

“Amid a record number of travelers, we’re dedicated to making airport travel as efficient, affordable, and seamless as possible,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi in a press release.

The transition will occur as Lyft customers linked to Delta’s SkyMiles program can continue earning miles until April 7. Delta has assured direct communication with affected customers about the change. In appreciation of its partnership with Lyft, Delta noted the billions of miles earned by loyal customers during their collaboration.

This partnership with Uber is part of Delta’s broader strategy to expand its SkyMiles program, which generates billions annually. Delta already collaborates with companies like Starbucks, Hertz, and Ticketmaster. The integration with Uber also complements its relationship with American Express, which offers Uber credits to some cardholders. Delta estimates its partnership with AmEx will contribute $7 billion in 2024, with a long-term goal of $10 billion annually.

Uber, with its extensive user base of 161 million active users as of September 2024, provides Delta access to a larger audience compared to Lyft, which had 24.4 million riders during the same period. The partnership was announced at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, where Delta also introduced AI-driven enhancements to its app and upgrades to in-flight entertainment systems.

While Lyft expressed gratitude for its collaboration with Delta, it highlighted ongoing partnerships with other major brands, including Alaska Airlines, Chase, Hilton, and DoorDash, as it continues to innovate within the travel space.

By aligning with Uber, Delta aims to provide more value to its SkyMiles members while leveraging Uber’s broader reach in the ride-hailing and delivery sectors, further strengthening its position as a leader in customer engagement and loyalty innovation.
