Delta Air Lines has announced a major leadership reshuffle that will take effect in April, appointing new executives to several key roles including president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

The changes come as the airline adjusts its senior management structure following the retirement of longtime president Glen Hauenstein at the end of February.

Peter Carter named president

Peter Carter, previously Delta’s chief external affairs officer, will assume the role of president on April 1. He will succeed Hauenstein, who spent decades with the airline and played a major role in shaping its commercial strategy and global partnerships.

Carter joined Delta in July 2015 and has overseen the company’s government affairs, legal, regulatory and public policy teams. In his new position, he will take on broader responsibilities that include enterprise strategy, international policy and legal matters, as well as oversight of real estate, sustainability initiatives and diversity programs.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian said the promotion reflects Carter’s expanding influence within the company and his role in guiding the airline through regulatory, policy and strategic challenges.

Dan Janki to become chief operating officer

Another major leadership change involves Dan Janki, currently Delta’s chief financial officer. Janki will transition to the role of chief operating officer following the April 30 retirement of John Laughter, who currently serves as chief of operations and president of Delta TechOps.

Janki joined Delta in 2021 and previously held senior finance roles at several major corporations. As COO, he will oversee a wide range of operational divisions including airport customer service, flight operations, in-flight service, the operations and customer center, reservations sales and customer care, and Delta’s technical operations division. His responsibilities will also include corporate safety, security and regulatory compliance.

Erik Snell appointed chief financial officer

To fill the CFO role, Delta has named Erik Snell, who currently serves as the airline’s chief customer experience officer.

Snell has spent two decades at Delta in a variety of leadership roles. As CFO, he will lead the airline’s finance organization while also overseeing fleet strategy, supply chain management and Delta’s refinery subsidiary, Monroe Energy. The refinery, located in Pennsylvania, supplies jet fuel to Delta’s operations and is a key part of the airline’s fuel cost management strategy.

Additional leadership changes

Delta also announced several additional appointments as part of the broader leadership restructuring.

Alain Bellemare, currently president of international, will take on expanded responsibilities as chairman of Delta TechOps, the airline’s aircraft maintenance and engineering division.

Meanwhile, Ranjan Goswami, senior vice president of customer experience design, will become chief marketing and product officer. He succeeds Alicia Tillman, who has decided to leave the airline.

Leadership team reporting structure

Under the new structure, Carter, Janki, Snell and Goswami will report directly to CEO Ed Bastian, who continues to lead Delta as the airline pursues growth in international markets and further investments in customer experience and operational reliability.

The leadership changes mark one of Delta’s most significant executive reorganizations in recent years, as the carrier continues to position itself for long-term expansion and operational modernization in the global aviation market.
