GLOCo-op customers now have the opportunity to purchase groceries through a Scottish gift card initiative aimed at promoting local shopping. Launched in 2021 by Scotland’s Towns Partnership and Miconex, the Scotland Local Loves Gift Card is intended to bolster local economies by encouraging shoppers to invest in their communities.
With a presence in over 300 stores throughout Scotland, Co-op has joined this initiative just in time for Christmas preparations, enabling customers to procure essential festive groceries. The convenience retailer aligns itself with various national and local businesses that accept these cards, streamlining the process for customers who can present them at participating stores’ checkouts.
Kate McCrae Graham, Co-op’s operations director, emphasized the retailer’s integral role in more than 300 towns, villages, and cities across Scotland. She highlighted Co-op’s commitment to local communities, job creation, and support for farmers, growers, and suppliers. Expressing support for the gift cards, Graham stated that they are pleased to contribute to initiatives designed to bolster local high streets and economies.
Kimberley Guthrie, interim chief officer at Scotland’s Towns Partnership, praised the inclusion of Co-op and its extensive store network, noting that a greater number of places accepting the gift cards provides people with more reasons to spend time in their communities. Guthrie emphasized the positive ripple effects of the gift card, foreseeing its contribution to building better local environments.
