Cathay PacificAs part of its continued investment in the Chinese Mainland, Cathay Pacific is delighted to welcome members and customers back to its newly redesigned flagship lounge at Beijing Capital International Airport, placing human-centric design at the heart of the elevated lounge experience.
This marks another milestone in the airline’s extensive lounge enhancement plan in Hong Kong and other major destinations in its network, following the reopening of The Bridge at Hong Kong International Airport in May.
To unveil the newly reopened Beijing lounge, Cathay Pacific held a launch event yesterday (15 August), hosted by Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau, Director Chinese Mainland Arnold Cheng, Director Customer Travel Erica Peng and Director Service Delivery Mandy Ng, and attended by guest of honour Deputy General Manager of Beijing Capital International Airport Li Chun, and various industry partners and distinguished guests.
Ronald Lam said: “We are incredibly excited to reopen the doors of our latest flagship Beijing lounge today, which underscores our unique position of having deep roots in Hong Kong, being proudly part of China and connecting the world. Having one of our best lounges located at the capital’s airport is especially important to us. The redesigned lounge complements Cathay Pacific’s seven daily return flights between Hong Kong and Beijing this summer, as we strive to offer customers greater choice and convenience — both in the air and on the ground — when they travel with us.
“As a Group, we continue to expand our network in the Chinese Mainland, operating more than 300 return flights per week to 23 destinations during the summer peak. We remain committed to providing customers with a seamless and elevated travel experience through our Hong Kong hub.”
Erica Peng said: “Our commitment to delivering comfort and human-centric design is thoughtfully woven into every element of our redesigned Beijing lounge. From its layout and lighting to its furnishings and completely revamped dining offerings featuring a unique selection of special dishes inspired by local Beijing flavours, we seek to create the inviting ambience that mirrors the warmth and familiarity of our lounges in Hong Kong and around the world. Our goal is to make our members and customers truly feel at home and well looked after from the very start of their journey with us.”
Alongside the redesigned Beijing lounge, Cathay Pacific also operates two other lounges in the Chinese Mainland — an airport lounge at Shanghai Pudong International Airport as well as its first-ever ferry port lounge at the Shekou Cruise Home Port in Shenzhen for intermodal travellers.
In Hong Kong, the airline recently reopened its popular lounge The Bridge and converted The Deck into an interim First class lounge, ensuring customers continue to enjoy a premium lounge experience during the renovation of The Wing, First — which will reopen in 2026 — followed by The Wing, Business. Eligible customers can also visit Cathay Pacific’s much-loved The Pier, First and The Pier, Business lounges at the airline’s home hub.
In the coming years, Cathay Pacific will be launching new flagship lounges in Hong Kong and, for the very first time, New York, as part of the Cathay Group’s more than HK$100 billion investment into state-of-the-art aircraft, cabin products, lounges and digital innovations.
The Space
The Beijing lounge is designed to harmonise with its environment, using thoughtfully placed roofing and window orientations that enhance natural light, maximise views, and maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the year. The use of high-quality materials, such as cherry wood finish and limestone, elevates and contributes to the residential feel of the overall space.
Reception
The reception experience at the Beijing lounge reflects Cathay Pacific’s ongoing shift from a traditional counter design to a podium format, first introduced in The Bridge at Hong Kong International Airport earlier this year. This new format offers a warm and friendly welcome to guests entering the space.
The Beijing lounge is also the first outside Hong Kong to introduce Cathay Pacific’s Lounge Ambassadors as a continuation of its attentive and personalised customer service.
Main Lounge
As one of the more intimate spaces within the Beijing lounge, the Main Lounge area features carefully selected designer furniture and lighting that are purposefully placed to deliver the ambiance and comfort of a refined home. More intimate spaces are embedded into the lounge to offer enhanced privacy to those who value discretion.
Dining
The Beijing lounge presents guests with three distinct dining propositions, each thoughtfully designed to add variety while complementing one another.
An iconic mainstay of Cathay Pacific’s lounges worldwide, the Noodle Bar blends communal long tables with cosy banquette seating. In addition to signature dishes including freshly prepared wonton and dan dan noodles, the Noodle Bar also serves regional Chinese specialties that honour the unique cultural heritage of the Chinese capital, such as rich and savoury Beijing bean paste noodles. A selection of Northern Chinese specialties is also available.
The Food Hall is a contemporary, open-ceiling space featuring an array of self-serve dining options that complement the Noodle Bar and Chinese culinary offerings. It provides a curated selection of comforting and familiar international options, from hearty hot dishes to wholesome salads to freshly baked goods.
For the first time outside Hong Kong, the Teahouse brings a curated experience to Beijing where guests can enjoy a selection of premium Chinese teas freshly brewed to order by Cathay Pacific’s tea specialists. The teas are specially sourced from regions across China for their unique origin and flavour profiles.
Relaxation
The Terrace is a light-filled open-ceiling verandah for customers to enjoy the vibrant and relaxed atmosphere of the lounge, with a dedicated corner showcasing the airline’s bespoke multi-functional Solo Chairs.
Artwork
Guests can explore a thoughtfully selected artwork collection throughout the lounge, developed in collaboration with one of the curators behind the airline’s award-winning “Gallery in the Skies” concept. The pieces range from vibrant, contemporary calligraphy to whimsical drawings on boarding passes, created by a diverse group of artists that reflect a rich tapestry of artistic expression.
