GLOBold Commerce, an eCommerce company, has launched its inaugural biometric checkout solution called Bold Checkout with Wink. This technology allows retailers to offer customers the option to utilize their faces and voices to automatically fill in the required information for completing a purchase. The solution, powered by Wink, aims to enhance the overall checkout experience, drive conversion rates, boost customer loyalty, and increase average order value.
Bold Commerce CEO Peter Karpas emphasized the growing interest of retailers in the biometrics space, stating that the new checkout experience takes Bold’s established tailored approach further by integrating biometrics. This allows shoppers to swiftly complete purchases using only their facial and vocal identification.
Current biometric capabilities, according to Bold Commerce, are limited to specific devices and the payment phase of checkout. With consumers expecting faster checkout processes, relying on passwords introduces friction and vulnerability. Device-based biometric solutions are often bypassed by PIN codes, don’t align with shoppers’ preferences for alternate payment methods, and are not consistently available across all purchase channels.
Bold Commerce’s release highlights that retailers can seamlessly integrate the biometric technology into any mobile, desktop, or in-store shopping experience. The technology eliminates the need for passwords and PINs throughout the entire checkout process, enabling shoppers to transition from their cart to purchase “using only their face.”
This introduction aligns with the growing demand for biometric shopping solutions among American consumers. PYMNTS Intelligence reported that nearly half of U.S. online shoppers currently use biometrics, with around 15% expressing interest in adopting such technology in the future. The study emphasized that 46% of biometrics users consider faster checkout a significant factor in choosing this authentication method.
Other companies are also exploring biometric checkout solutions, such as Fortress Payments, which recently introduced a payments suite featuring a biometric checkout solution. Fortress Payments aims to leverage the familiarity of using a selfie for unlocking phones to streamline the payment process.
