American Express announced the rollout of a new travel app designed exclusively for its cardmembers, marking a significant expansion of the company’s digital travel services. The platform will allow users across consumer, small-business, and commercial cards to book flights, hotels, and ground transportation directly through the app.

According to Amex, the app is built to deliver a more personalized travel experience, with upcoming features including curated hotel recommendations, destination insights, and tailored information about card-linked travel benefits such as room upgrades, statement credits, and exclusive partner perks. The new app will be available for iOS devices starting Thursday, with an Android launch planned in the coming weeks.

The initiative builds on American Express’s broader strategy to strengthen its footprint in the $1.3 trillion global travel industry. The company already operates one of the world’s largest travel agencies through American Express Travel, offering access to the Fine Hotels + Resorts® program and exclusive partnerships with airlines, hotels, and luxury brands. By creating a standalone app, Amex is positioning itself to compete more directly with online travel platforms while integrating the value of its membership rewards ecosystem.

In addition to the app launch, Amex also announced an upgrade to its Centurion Lounge digital waitlist system. Travelers can now view estimated wait times before joining the waitlist, giving them more transparency and control over their lounge visits. This enhancement comes as demand for premium airport lounges continues to surge; Centurion Lounges, located in key airports worldwide, have become one of the most popular travel benefits for Platinum and Centurion cardholders, often operating at capacity.

Julie Rath, EVP of Global Travel & Lifestyle Services at American Express, recently noted that travel remains one of the strongest engagement drivers for cardmembers: “We continue to see travel bookings through Amex trending above pre-pandemic levels, with our cardmembers prioritizing experiences and premium travel.”

With these updates, American Express is reinforcing its strategy of combining financial services with lifestyle and travel perks, offering cardholders not just rewards points but also tools, services, and experiences that enhance every stage of their journey.
