Air CanadaAir Canada is expanding its European network with the launch of two new routes from Montreal to Naples, Italy, and Porto, Portugal, set to begin in the spring of 2025. This announcement follows closely on the heels of Air Canada’s earlier reveal of a new non-stop route from Toronto to Prague, which will also commence in June next year.
The new services from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) will establish direct connections to Naples-Capodichino International Airport (NAP) and Porto Airport (OPO).

Starting May 16, 2025, flights to Naples will operate four times a week, with the following schedule:
- AC882: Montreal (YUL) to Naples (NAP), departing at 7:00 PM and arriving at 9:30 AM the next day
- AC883: Naples (NAP) to Montreal (YUL), departing at 11:15 AM and arriving at 2:35 PM
The eastbound flight is scheduled for 8 hours and 30 minutes, while the return journey will take 9 hours and 20 minutes. Air Canada will operate this route using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, featuring a three-class configuration with 20 seats in business class, 21 seats in premium economy, and 210 seats in economy. The airline’s Signature Class, or international business class, offers lie-flat seating with direct aisle access, while the economy class provides slimline seats.
The Montreal–Porto route will begin on June 4, 2025, also with four weekly flights:
- AC928: Montreal (YUL) to Porto (OPO), departing at 9:55 PM and arriving at 9:45 AM the next day
- AC929: Porto (OPO) to Montreal (YUL), departing at 12:15 PM and arriving at 2:35 PM
This route will be served by Air Canada’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which offers 16 recliner-style business class seats and 153 standard economy seats. The eastbound flight is scheduled to last just under seven hours, with the return flight taking approximately seven and a half hours.
According to Great Circle Mapper, the Montreal–Naples route spans a non-stop distance of 4,226 miles, while the Montreal–Porto route covers 3,199 miles.
Air Canada flights booked with Aeroplan points are subject to dynamic pricing, offering a range of redemption costs. For the Montreal–Porto route, the published ranges are:
- Economy: 35,000–60,000 Aeroplan points
- Business Class (sold under Premium Economy fares on routes without lie-flat seats): 60,000–160,000 Aeroplan points
For the Montreal–Naples route, the ranges are:
- Economy: 40,000–70,000 Aeroplan points
- Premium Economy: 60,000–90,000 Aeroplan points
- Business Class: 70,000–180,000 Aeroplan points
A quick search for availability in spring 2025 shows a variety of pricing options, with some dates offering more favorable rates. However, securing “Saver”-level awards for Italy during the summer might prove challenging.
For those paying with cash, sample round-trip fares are as follows:
- To Porto: Approximately $1,100 CAD (economy) and $3,200 CAD (business class, sold as premium economy)
- To Naples: Between $1,300 and $1,500 CAD (economy), $3,200 CAD (premium economy), and $6,600 CAD (business class)
Travelers are encouraged to use an Aeroplan co-branded credit card to earn bonus points on Air Canada purchases and to take advantage of travel insurance coverage on both cash and Aeroplan award bookings. The American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card is a top choice, offering 3 points per dollar spent on Air Canada purchases. Other options include the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card, the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card, and the American Express Aeroplan Card, each earning 2 points per dollar spent.
The flights for these new routes are now available for booking through Air Canada’s website and the Aeroplan search engine.
