Meet Cart Assistant
Cart Assistant is a new AI-powered feature in the Uber Eats app designed to help users build grocery baskets quickly and effortlessly. With fewer steps and less friction, it gives customers valuable time back in their day.
After hearing that users wanted a faster way to shop, Uber developed Cart Assistant to streamline the journey from idea to checkout in seconds.
How it works
Users open the Uber Eats app, search for their preferred grocery store, and tap the purple Cart Assistant icon to get started. They can type in a shopping list or upload an image—such as a photo of a handwritten list or a screenshot of recipe ingredients—and Cart Assistant automatically adds the items to the basket.
The tool factors in real-time product availability and displays store-specific details, including pricing and promotions. Before checkout, users can review and edit their basket, swap items, or add anything else they need.
Currently in beta, Cart Assistant represents an early step in Uber’s broader effort to apply agentic AI to practical, everyday challenges on Uber Eats—focusing on areas where it can deliver the greatest impact.
Cart Assistant also draws on past orders to prioritize familiar items, such as frequently purchased milk or favorite oatmeal, creating a faster and more personalized shopping experience.
This reflects Uber’s broader vision for AI: start with real customer needs and build practical, in-app solutions. The company looks forward to learning from user feedback and continuing to refine Cart Assistant over time.
