TAAG Angola Airlines and South African Airways have formalised a strategic codeshare agreement designed to boost both regional and long-haul connectivity. The collaboration strengthens each carrier’s route network, making Luanda, Johannesburg, and Cape Town key gateways for smoother travel across the African continent and to international destinations.

After extensive systems coordination between the two airlines, the partnership is now live—tickets are available for purchase, and travel under the codeshare officially began today.

Under this agreement, both airlines will extend their reach by placing their respective flight codes on select routes. SAA will add its code to TAAG-operated services from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Luanda, as well as onward routes from Luanda to Lisbon, Portugal, and São Paulo, Brazil. Conversely, TAAG customers will gain easier access to several important cities within SAA’s network, including Durban, Gqeberha, Cape Town, Harare, and Lusaka.

The new arrangement allows both carriers to co-market and sell itineraries across their combined networks. Passengers benefit from a broader range of travel options, simplified booking through a single ticket purchased in local currency, and seamless connections supported by integrated check-in and baggage handling. Overall, the alliance significantly improves convenience, flexibility, and connectivity for travellers moving between the two networks.

In addition to elevating the customer experience, the partnership supports Africa’s broader transportation landscape by enhancing intra-African mobility. It fosters economic activity by strengthening trade ties, boosting tourism flows, and enabling more efficient movement of people and goods.

Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG, voiced strong support for the agreement, noting,
“Partnering with South African Airways bolsters our continental network and opens new international gateways for our passengers. It reinforces Luanda’s status as an essential regional hub, benefiting both our economy and tourism sector. This collaboration is fully aligned with our expansion plans.”

SAA Group CEO Professor John Lamola added,
“This alliance is a major step forward for African aviation, expanding connectivity and creating new possibilities for both leisure and business travellers. Working with TAAG enables us to broaden our footprint, deliver an enhanced passenger experience, and open important commercial links. As SAA grows its network, this partnership underscores our role in connecting Africa with the world and supporting trade, investment, tourism, cultural exchange, and economic progress.”

Together, TAAG Angola Airlines and South African Airways reaffirm their dedication to providing high-quality service while advancing regional and global connectivity through this strategic cooperation.
