VolarisThe Mexican ultra-low-cost airline, Volaris, has teamed up with technology company, Zamna, to bring digital intelligence solutions to the airport check-in process for international flights at Mexico City International Airport (MEX). The partnership aims to reduce long queues and congestion for passengers, improving their overall experience.
Zamna’s technology will help to verify passenger data before they arrive at the airport, thus reducing the time required for check-in and enhancing efficiency. The London-based company’s digital intelligence will be able to confirm the identity and travel documents provided by each passenger, ensuring compliance with various travel regulations.
Volaris IT Director, Carlos Alberto González, said that the partnership with Zamna is part of the airline’s efforts to reduce check-in time through technology and innovation, and not only to enhance the passenger experience but also to see benefits on the operational cost side. Every time someone checks in digitally, it will reduce the labor and associated costs that were previously required on the check-in desk.
Zamna’s technology is dynamic and live, checking passenger documentation against a regulatory checklist according to the travel destination. Rodrigo Tame, the company’s representative in Latin America, said that the solution will enable travelers on selected Volaris flights to be pre-cleared instantly to fly at the check-in point, well before their arrival at the airport.
Neither company has yet revealed on which international routes this new solution will be offered. Volaris currently offers 76 weekly international flights departing from Mexico City, serving 11 destinations in the United States, one in Colombia, one in Guatemala, and one in Peru. The most important international routes from MEX are Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, Lima, Las Vegas, Houston, and Bogota, with daily flights on each.
Mexico City International Airport is the largest airport by yearly passenger numbers in Latin America, with 46.2 million passengers reported last year, a 28.2% increase compared to the previous year. However, it has suffered from acute congestion for years, particularly at peak hours, leading to various solutions being proposed, including a new airport that was later canceled.
Airlines have also been introducing new technological developments, such as digital check-ins and baggage drop systems, to improve the airport experience for passengers. Volaris’ partnership with Zamna is another step towards using technology to enhance the airport check-in process and reduce wait times for travelers.
