GLOUnited Airlines has expanded its aircraft orders, including 50 firm Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 60 firm orders of Airbus A321neo narrowbody aircraft. United’s chief commercial officer, Andrew Nocella, stated that this order will support the airline’s global growth plans. The firm Dreamliner orders represent the conversion of half of United’s purchase options from last year, with deliveries expected between 2028 and 2031. United intends to use the Dreamliners to grow its long-range widebody fleet and replace its aging Boeing 767 aircraft by around 2030. The airline also has 45 Airbus A350 widebodies on order for delivery after 2024. Additionally, United has ordered 60 Airbus A321neo narrowbodies for delivery between 2028 and 2030, which will help replace its aging Boeing 757 fleet. The A321neo orders will assist in increasing the average size of domestic aircraft to accommodate capacity growth at congested airports. United also has 50 Airbus A321XLR planes on order for long-range routes to secondary cities and secured purchase rights for up to 40 more A321neos.
