Caribbean Airlines has revealed its current efforts in examining opportunities for strategic collaboration with Saudi Arabia. Chairman Ronnie Mohammed shared that this exploration is occurring within the framework of Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Programme (ACP). Mohammed, who participated in Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s recent delegation to Saudi Arabia, engaged in substantive discussions with Rashed Alshammair, the vice-president of commercial at ACP.

The ACP initiative is specifically designed to elevate tourism growth in Saudi Arabia by refining air connectivity through the expansion of existing and potential air routes. Established in 2021, the Saudi ACP aims to boost tourism by improving air connectivity and developing both existing and potential air routes.

Operating at the intersection of tourism and aviation, the ACP plays a pivotal role in achieving the vision of the National Tourism Strategy, positioning Saudi Arabia as a global leader in tourism air connectivity. In a media release in Trinidad & Tobago, Caribbean Airlines emphasized that these discussions align with its strategic plan goals for 2023–27, where network growth is a key focus.

The release stated, “Recognizing the significance of Saudi Arabia as a destination, especially for the Muslim community in TT and the wider region, the airline aims to create affordable and convenient travel, particularly for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.”

Caribbean Airlines aspires to establish potential connections with Saudi Air and Riyadh Air, the latter of which is scheduled to launch in 2024. The airline views this initiative as a crucial element of its growth strategy, aiming to form partnerships with airlines and stakeholders to expand its reach and enhance connectivity between Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean, and the global community.
