QantasQantas has opted for Panasonic Avionics’ latest Astrova IFE solution for its ultra-long-haul ‘Project Sunrise’ flights from Australia’s east coast to Europe and New York, using the Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
Andy Masson, Vice President of Product Management at Panasonic Avionics, highlighted the longstanding collaboration between Qantas and Panasonic in introducing groundbreaking IFE solutions. Recognizing the unique passenger needs for these extended flights, the focus was on designing a system that offers the comforts of home, including cinema-grade picture quality, high-fidelity audio, and ample power for charging all passenger devices.
Astrova features an OLED 4K screen with HDR 10+, boasting infinite contrast ratio and perfect blacks for an unparalleled viewing experience. Passengers can connect their personal headphones via full-cabin Bluetooth, and the system offers up to 100 W of fast-charging power for mobile devices and laptops through USB-C ports, available throughout the flight.
Moreover, Panasonic Avionics’ new IFE solution contributes to airline sustainability efforts by reducing the need for recycling materials and maximizing system lifespan. Its significantly lighter weight compared to previous systems also helps airlines minimize fuel consumption.
Masson expressed excitement about offering this engaging and innovative solution in collaboration with Qantas, emphasizing its support for long-haul and ultra-long-haul flights. The goal is to provide a memorable passenger experience that drives net promoter score and brand loyalty, all while being designed to be lightweight and adaptable to evolving technology trends.
