Collinson, the owner and operator of Priority Pass, is expanding its collaboration with China Eastern Airlines. This expansion will integrate 24 airport lounges in mainland China into the Priority Pass network.

These new lounges will complement the existing China Eastern Airlines-operated lounge at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, which was added to the Priority Pass network last year. Currently, 20 out of the 24 new lounges are already operational.

This expanded partnership comes as the travel market in mainland China continues to recover rapidly. Domestic travel in China is anticipated to reach pre-pandemic levels this year, as demonstrated by the recent May Day holiday, which saw 295 million domestic trips — a 28.2% increase compared to the same period in 2019.

Inbound travel volumes are expected to recover to 50% of 2019 levels by 2025, while outbound travel volumes are projected to return to pre-pandemic levels next year.

A recent consumer insights report by Collinson highlighted that 65% of travelers in mainland China feel valued when they have access to an airport lounge, making it the most desirable travel benefit at the airport.

“This is an exciting time for the travel industry in mainland China, particularly with the market recovering rapidly and the growing demand for travel experiences such as airport lounge access,” said Todd Handcock, Collinson International Global Chief Commercial Officer and Asia Pacific President. “Our partnership with China Eastern Airlines has significantly enhanced the travel experience, and we are thrilled to continue making every journey special.”

This announcement follows Collinson’s recent strategic joint venture with Joyful Journey Group to form ‘Joyful Journey Priority Pass’ in mainland China. This alliance offers market-specific agile technology, an expanded inventory of airport lounges, and an improved traveler experience.

Priority Pass now boasts a network of more than 550 airport lounges and travel experiences in Asia Pacific and over 1,500 globally across major travel zones.
