On Wednesday, Travelport launched an AI-powered search feature designed to help travel agencies find the ideal trip for travelers from billions of options. The Content Curation Layer (CCL) leverages AI and machine learning to sort through aggregated, multi-source content, delivering retail-ready results faster than typical airline searches. Travelport CEO Greg Webb stated that the company’s role in the complex travel industry is to simplify millions of disparate pieces of information for both travel agencies and providers. He believes AI and machine learning are essential for this purpose.

The new tool will be integrated into the Travelport Plus platform, which was introduced in 2021 to replace the company’s three legacy global distribution systems. Webb noted that the CCL allows travel agencies to quickly offer travelers a comprehensive range of normalized, enriched, and bookable content through a single search interface, making it easier to compare different options.

A key component of the tool is the Content Optimizer, which gives clients greater control over various content types, including NDC and traditional options. Agents can refine search results, enhance revenue optimization, and customize content choices to avoid overload. Webb highlighted that the Content Optimizer allows agencies to set their own rules, prioritizing the most relevant results and offering greater control, supported by AI, to save time and money.

Earlier this year, Travelport made headlines for layoffs aimed at improving agility. Katie Cline, Travelport’s global head of external communications, emphasized the company’s focus on driving revenue growth while maintaining operational efficiency. This followed a significant funding boost in December with a $570 million investment.
