GLOTravelers from Atlantic Canada will soon have direct access to Switzerland and easy connections to much of Europe, thanks to Edelweiss Air’s new route between Halifax (YHZ) and Zurich (ZRH).
Starting July 3, 2025, Edelweiss Air will offer twice-weekly non-stop flights, marking the first direct link between these two cities. This is particularly good news for Atlantic Canadians who typically need to connect through major hubs to reach Switzerland and beyond.
The flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays from July to early October 2025, with the following schedule:
- LX8018 Zurich (ZRH) to Halifax (YHZ), departing at 1:50 PM and arriving at 4:20 PM
- LX8019 Halifax (YHZ) to Zurich (ZRH), departing at 7:00 PM and arriving at 6:25 AM the next day

The Airbus A340-300 aircraft, which seats 314 passengers in economy and business class, will service the route. The business class cabin, featuring lie-flat seats, has a unique layout situated between two economy sections.
Nova Scotia’s Minister of Community, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Allan MacMaster, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of Europe to the province’s economy. He noted that the new route would strengthen business connections and attract more visitors to Nova Scotia.
The Zurich-Halifax route is expected to bring over 4,000 visitors to Halifax each summer, generating an economic impact of more than CAD $20 million. Meanwhile, Atlantic Canadian travelers will benefit from easier access to Switzerland and Zurich’s hub, which offers connections to numerous European destinations.
Currently, non-stop transatlantic flights from Halifax include Condor and Eurowings to Frankfurt, which can be booked with points. WestJet and Air Canada also offer flights to the UK, though these routes do not feature lie-flat seats in business class.
In addition to the Halifax route, Edelweiss Air announced a new seasonal twice-weekly flight between Zurich (ZRH) and Seattle (SEA), starting June 2, 2025, through late October 2025.
Edelweiss Air also operates flights to Vancouver, Calgary, Denver, Las Vegas, and Tampa.
Redeeming Points for Edelweiss Air Flights
Edelweiss Air is a non-alliance partner with Aeroplan, allowing travelers to redeem Aeroplan points for flights. The Halifax-Zurich route falls under the “Between North America and Atlantic zones” chart. The flight distance is 3,335 miles, making it eligible for 35,000 Aeroplan points one-way in economy or 60,000 points one-way in business class.

The Seattle-Zurich route, at 5,259 miles, requires 40,000 points in economy or 70,000 points in business class for a one-way trip.
Although Edelweiss Air’s business class might not be the most competitive, the non-stop flights are a valuable option for those prioritizing direct routes or facing limited business class availability from their main hub.
Conclusion
Starting July 3, 2025, Swiss airline Edelweiss Air will provide twice-weekly non-stop flights between Halifax (YHZ) and Zurich (ZRH), creating the first direct connection between the two cities. The Airbus A340-300 will service the route, offering a convenient option for Atlantic Canadians traveling to Europe.
