Morrisons has unveiled a major update to its loyalty app, stating that the new version will offer an improved experience for all users.

The supermarket has merged its customers from the previous “white app” for online shopping to a single “green” Morrisons Groceries app. According to The Grocer, Morrisons had previously been using “one website and two apps.”

The “white app” was originally used for regions where online orders were fulfilled from central distribution centers, while a separate app was introduced for areas using a store-pick model. Morrisons clarified that this split was “regional,” and most customers likely wouldn’t have noticed.

Now, Morrisons has discontinued the old app, moving all users to the unified Morrisons Groceries app. This change happened in two phases over the summer and included upgrades to both the app and website, as reported by The Mirror.

The overhaul introduces new features that Morrisons claims will make online shopping easier, such as an improved checkout process, an enhanced “Quick Add Ingredients” recipe feature, and one-click ordering for faster transactions.

Andrew Everson, head of online at Morrisons, announced on LinkedIn: “THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Morrisons Online Groceries is now available on one app nationwide! No more confusion over whether you’re a white or green app shopper. It’s better for everyone. Green app users get a major feature upgrade, and white app users can now access Home Delivery and Click and Collect through one app nationwide.”

Earlier in the month, Morrisons expanded its loyalty program, allowing customers to earn points on grocery purchases made through Amazon. Shoppers can link their Morrisons More account with Amazon to benefit from this feature, marking the first time points can be earned through a partner platform.

The Morrisons More loyalty scheme works similarly to other programs, awarding points for specific products purchased in-store and online. Accumulating 5,000 points results in a £5 More Card voucher. Members also receive exclusive offers and personalized discounts, which can be redeemed weekly.
