Hawaiian AirlinesHawaiian Airlines to Join oneworld in 2026
Hawaiian Airlines is set to become the 16th full member of the oneworld alliance in 2026. As the third North American carrier in the group—joining Alaska Airlines and American—the move comes after Hawaiian’s acquisition by Alaska Air Group, completed in September 2024 for $1.9 billion.
Why Now? The Alaska Integration & System Unification
Alaska Air Group finalized the acquisition of Hawaiian on September 18, 2024 . Although both airlines will continue operating under their own brands for the time being, full oneworld integration—including a single passenger service system and unified loyalty program—is planned by 2026.
What This Means for Travelers
Expanded global access: Joining oneworld gives travelers seamless connections across 1,200 cities worldwide via partner carriers, complementing Hawaii’s existing network to Asia, Australia, and the mainland U.S.
Loyalty perks upgrade: HawaiianMiles members can expect status matches, reciprocal elite benefits, and ability to earn/redeem miles across oneworld partners. From early 2025, Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles miles are already transferable at a 1:1 ratio, with reciprocal perks rolling out pre-launch .
New lounge and priority access: Depending on tier, travelers will enjoy priority check-in, boarding, baggage allowances, and lounge access on international partner flights .
Competitive Context & Industry Impact
Hawaiian is the 10th-largest U.S. airline, with a fleet of around 75 aircraft, and holds a strong reputation for reliability, punctuality, and safety. The merger with Alaska (which owns narrow-body aircraft) boosts long-haul connectivity to Asia and the Pacific—benefitting both carriers’ route strategies.
Acquiring Hawaiian also strengthens Alaska’s position in the oneworld alliance, providing better competition against other alliances like Star and SkyTeam.
What Happens Next?
-
2025: System integration begins; loyalty programs start reciprocal mile transfers and status access.
-
2026: Formal oneworld membership kicks off alongside unified systems and a combined loyalty scheme.
Until then, Hawaiian and Alaska flyers should watch for updates on lounge expansions, codeshares (like the new Qantas partnership), and benefit rollouts.
By joining oneworld, Hawaiian Airlines will:
-
Deliver seamless global connectivity and travel experience
-
Elevate its loyalty program to match major international carriers
-
Strengthen its competitive stance in Pacific and intercontinental markets.
