Luniwave gamification platform changes this by inviting guests to set personal water-use goals—for example, limiting shower water to a certain number of liters—and earn rewards for meeting those targets, making sustainability tangible and motivating. The idea is simple: when sustainability feels rewarding and playful, people are more likely to embrace it.

The shower is one of the biggest sources of hotels’ water consumption, yet most guests rarely consider their individual impact during their stay.

The platform is designed to be simple, intuitive and fun, built on the insight that guests want to contribute to sustainability as long as the experience is easy and engaging. By turning water-saving into a game, Luniwave also enhances the guest journey, transforming an everyday activity into a meaningful experience. This kind of playful, purpose-driven interaction taps into a growing trend where travelers actively seek out hotels that reflect their values, especially around climate and conservation.

“Nine out of ten guests said it improved their stay. That’s the power of turning sustainability into an experience.” – LÉONARD GRYNFOGEL, Co-founder and CEO of Luniwave

Making it fun to do the right thing

Luniwave’s approach extends far beyond water savings. The same gamification logic powers GreenMiles, a broader program that rewards guests for a variety of sustainable choices throughout their stay—for example by skipping room cleaning, opting for train travel instead of flights or reducing overall water consumption.

This program is more than mere tracking; it’s about motivating lasting behavior change by creating a positive feedback loop. Guests accumulate miles for sustainable actions. An innovative approach that will be tested within Accor’s hotels, aligning perfectly with the Group’s commitment to actively engage guests in the company’s environmental, social and governance goals, making sustainability a participatory and rewarding part of hospitality.

“Can I get this at home?”

Accor is committed to striving for water conservation and a responsible management of resources. Thanks to this partnership, Luniwave had the opportunity to test and refine its solution of water saving in a real-world setting across seven hotel brands and two regions (the Middle East and Europe). The results were striking: the pilot sa reduction in water use in participating rooms. Ibut resonance with guests. Some even asked where they could buy the system for home use—That kind of response speaks volumes because when sustainability becomes a story guests tell, it adds lasting value to the brand.

Thanks to Accor’s scale and willingness to support innovation, Luniwave was able to fast-track validation, proving that first component of their solution delivers measurable environmental impact without compromising the quality of the stay. The second phase of the pilot is planning to test on the ground the rewarding program of the solution by years 2025-2026.

A shared vision for sustainable innovation

The success of the Luniwave-Accor partnership stems from a shared vision: the future of travel must be sustainable and true innovation engages people in the process. This alignment gives the collaboration the momentum needed to grow quickly and set a new standard in the industry.
