A Breakthrough in Airport Technology

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has unveiled the “Red Carpet” smart corridor, a pioneering AI-powered immigration system that allows eligible passengers to pass through departure formalities without presenting passports, boarding passes, or stopping. Developed in collaboration between the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) – Dubai and Dubai Airports, this innovation marks a major leap toward seamless, document-free travel.

How It Works

The corridor operates using three core components:

  1. Pre-verified Security — Passenger data and travel credentials are confirmed in advance.

  2. Biometric Match — Sophisticated AI facial-recognition systems authenticate identity.

  3. Seamless Exit — Flight details are verified automatically, enabling departure without any manual checks.

Speed, Capacity, and Efficiency

  • Clearance takes just 6–14 seconds per passenger.

  • The system can process up to 10 travellers simultaneously, significantly boosting throughput while maintaining high security.

The Passenger Experience

Passengers testing the system described it as futuristic and effortless:

  • Families praised its stress-free nature.

  • Business travelers appreciated the time savings.

  • Tourists likened it to “magic.”
Some even noted it exceeded experiences at major airports like Singapore, Tokyo, and London.

A Milestone for Dubai’s Smart Travel Strategy

The “Red Carpet” corridor builds upon DXB’s earlier “smart tunnel” launched in 2020 — a biometric passage allowing limited walk-through immigration. The new AI-powered system is part of Dubai’s broader initiatives: “Unlimited Smart Travel” and “Travel Without Borders”, both aiming to eventually fade out traditional passport control.

Global Impact

This is the first corridor of its kind worldwide, setting an unprecedented benchmark in border control efficiency and traveler convenience.

DXB, the world’s busiest international airport with over 46 million passengers in the first half of 2025, is using this innovation to cement its role as a leader in smart airport experiences.

What’s Next

  • Current deployment: Terminal 3, primarily in First and Business Class areas.

  • Future rollout: Expected to expand across more terminals and to include both departure and arrival flows.

Dubai International’s “Red Carpet” corridor is a world-first in passport-free, AI-driven immigration. Enabled by pre-verification, facial recognition, and real-time flight confirmation, the system transforms departure experiences—complete within seconds and handling multiple passengers at once. With expansion plans underway, this initiative solidifies DXB’s commitment to a frictionless future in travel.
