Perth Airport in Western Australia has partnered with Amadeus to roll out a cutting-edge biometric system designed to streamline the passenger experience from check-in through boarding. Built on Amadeus’ open platform, the new system integrates contactless technology across all key travel touchpoints.

As part of the upgrade, the airport will add nearly 100 self-service kiosks and replace about 40 conventional counters with automated bag-drop units. Each station is enabled with Amadeus’ biometric capabilities, allowing travelers to check in, drop bags, and board their flight with a quick facial scan—keeping passports and boarding passes tucked away.

“Passengers want stress-free departures, and by embracing automation, these enhancements create a seamless journey,” said Scott Woodward, Perth Airport’s Chief Operating Officer. “It benefits both our airline partners and travelers while supporting the airport’s growth by enabling us to serve more passengers at a higher standard.”

The project marks a continuation of Perth Airport’s collaboration with Amadeus, which began in 2015 with the adoption of cloud-based passenger processing. Trials with biometric solutions began in 2022 and have now culminated in full-scale deployment across the airport.

According to Sarah Samuel, Amadeus’ Senior Vice President for AirOps in APAC, the technology leverages secure tokenisation to create digital passenger profiles. “Once established, identity verification takes just seconds with a facial scan,” she explained. “This is transformative for airports—expanding capacity without new infrastructure while vastly simplifying the travel experience.”
