TAP PortugalTAP Air Portugal has officially launched its new ‘Airspace’ cabins, setting a new standard of comfort and efficiency for its short- and medium-haul fleet. The debut came today with the maiden commercial flight of the airline’s newest Airbus A321neo, named António Sérgio, on the route from Lisbon to Warsaw. This aircraft is the first of 20 to be delivered with the upgraded cabin design by 2029.
More Space for Luggage
One of the most notable improvements is the introduction of XL overhead bins, which offer 37% more storage capacity. Unlike traditional compartments, these bins allow bags to be stored vertically, enabling eight pieces of luggage per bin instead of five. In practice, this means the new A320neo can accommodate around 130 pieces of hand luggage, while the A321neo can hold up to 194 pieces, reducing boarding stress and making it easier for passengers to store and retrieve their bags.

Passenger Comfort and Accessibility
The cabin has been designed with both comfort and inclusivity in mind. Seats across the cabin are equipped with USB-A and USB-C sockets, ensuring passengers can keep devices charged throughout their journey. The toilets are also larger and now feature Braille signage, making them more accessible to visually impaired passengers.
Modern Ambience
The new LED ambient lighting system allows crew to adapt the cabin environment to different phases of the flight, such as boarding, dining, and resting. These customizable lighting scenarios not only create a more pleasant experience but also help reduce the effects of jet lag.
A Modern Fleet for the Future
By 2029, TAP Air Portugal plans to integrate 20 new aircraft equipped with the Airspace cabin: ten A320neo and ten A321neo models. The A321neo António Sérgio has a total capacity of 221 passengers, including 102 in Business and Economy Extra, and 119 in Economy.
With its new Airspace cabins, TAP joins other leading carriers in adopting Airbus’s next-generation interior design, offering passengers a more spacious, comfortable, and accessible flight experience.
