Wizz AirWizz Air, Europe’s ultra-low-cost airline, is preparing to test a new premium fare option called “Wizz Class”. The initiative, confirmed this week by Wizz Air Executive Vice President Michael Delehant, will launch as a limited trial on select routes in December.
The new ticket class marks a notable shift for the Budapest-based carrier, which has long positioned itself as one of Europe’s most affordable airlines. With Wizz Class, the company aims to attract passengers seeking a bit more comfort and convenience without fully departing from its budget-friendly roots.
A New Level of Comfort
Under the trial, Wizz Class passengers will enjoy several added perks for a higher fare price. Key benefits include:
-
An empty middle seat, allowing for extra personal space and comfort.
-
Priority boarding, ensuring early access to the aircraft.
-
An overhead carry-on bag allowance, a privilege not included in Wizz Air’s lowest fare categories.
These upgrades position Wizz Class as a middle ground between standard low-cost fares and the more traditional premium economy products offered by legacy carriers.
Trial Period and Expansion Plans
According to Delehant, the trial will initially run on select routes across Wizz Air’s European network starting in December 2025. The airline plans to monitor passenger feedback and booking trends closely during the trial period.
“We’re always exploring ways to enhance our customers’ travel experience while maintaining the affordability that defines Wizz Air,” Delehant said. “Wizz Class is an opportunity to see if there’s demand for a more comfortable, flexible option within our model.”
If the trial proves successful, Wizz Air may expand Wizz Class to additional routes in 2026, potentially marking the airline’s first permanent step into a tiered product offering.
A Competitive Move in the Low-Cost Market
The move mirrors similar initiatives by other European budget airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet, which have both introduced premium seating options or “Plus” bundles in recent years. For Wizz Air, however, the introduction of Wizz Class represents its most direct attempt yet to attract business travelers and frequent flyers who value space and convenience.
As the airline continues its rapid growth across Europe and the Middle East, the success of Wizz Class could signal a new era for the carrier—one where budget travel doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing comfort.
