Qantas Group has appointed Jetstar Asia CEO John Simeone to the newly created position of Executive Manager of Offshore Sales and Alliances, effective December 1, the company announced on Monday.

In his new role, Simeone will oversee Qantas’ offshore sales operations and alliance partnerships, reporting directly to Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International. He will lead the airline’s regional general managers across the U.K., Europe and South Africa, the Americas, and Asia, along with the alliances team. Additionally, Nick McGlynn, Qantas’ Executive Vice President of Asia, will report to Simeone.

The appointment marks Simeone’s return to the Qantas Group after leading Jetstar Asia, Qantas’ Singapore-based low-cost carrier, for nearly two years. Jetstar Asia was Qantas’ intra-Asia airline, but the company announced in June that the carrier would cease operations on July 31 as part of a broader regional restructuring.

Before taking the helm at Jetstar Asia, Simeone spent more than 26 years with Qantas, holding several senior leadership roles, including Senior Vice President of Asia and Senior Vice President of International Sales, according to his LinkedIn profile. Qantas credited Simeone with playing “a key role in the successful restart of Qantas international sales post-Covid.”

The new executive role underscores Qantas’ renewed focus on strengthening its international sales strategy and expanding global partnerships. With international travel rebounding and competition intensifying across key markets, Simeone’s extensive experience in global sales and alliance management is expected to play a pivotal role in Qantas’ next phase of international growth.
